Egypt's culture ministry has announced the launch of a project titled 'Heroes of Our Country,' which aims to relay the stories of the country’s national heroes through theatre plays.
According to Culture Minister Ines Abdel-Dayem, the project will immortalise the important Egyptian figures who have served the country throughout its history. She added that "it is important to introduce the many great deeds and sacrifices that those brave men and women made for their country."
The project is in part based on the book 'Stories of the Land and its Children' by Mohamed Nabil, which recounts many heroic stories.
Theatre plays prepared as part of the project will tour Egypt and will be performed on the many stages operating under the General Organisation for Cultural Palaces, headed by Ahmed Awwad.
In the first stage of the project, six Egyptian cities are targeted for the plays: Port Said, Giza, Assiut, Daqahliya, Gharbiya and Aswan.
