A 50-minute theater performance entitled 'John', revolving around the last message of a lonely young man in an unjust world before he takes his life, will have its Arab World premier this weekend at the stage of the French Institute in Cairo.

"John contains all the force of the author’s early writings and is full of an unfiltered and pure truth. It is beautiful in both its brilliance and brutality." stated director Stanislas Nordey about the French-Language show that will be open for registered viewers for free.

John brings raging, vulnerable humanity to the statistic that suicide is the most common cause of death for French 13-17 year olds. The script is written by Wajdi Mouawad, represented by Agence Simard, based on an encounter with an achingly isolated young man who had a cruel mother.

With the support of the French Institute in Cairo and Paris, the production of the National Theater of Strasbourg, John's scenography is designed by Emmanuel Clolus, while Philippe Berthomé directed the Lighting. The cast includes Damien Gabriac and Julie Moreau.

Egypt resumed public cultural activities in July as part of the country's cautious reopening following the COVID-19 lockdown, with all events held under strict measures that include social distancing, obligatory face masks, and sanitising.
