The Minister of Culture Ines Abdel-Dayem and the Governor of Port Said Adel El-Ghadban will launch the activities of "Port Said; the Capital of Egyptian Culture 2021" on Thursday 4th March.
The evening will begin with performances by the Port Said children folk troupe, followed by the opening of an exhibition of photos and documents on the history of Port Said. Then the activities will move to the theater where the minister of culture and the governor of Port Said will make an official launch and honour seven personalities of Egyptian culture.
The evening will also feature well-known singer Hany Shaker, presenting a selection of his popular songs from oriental heritage. Shaker will be accompanied by an orchestra under the baton of Mostafa Helmy.
During the second day of celebrations, there will be the official reopening of the newly restored Port Said cinema in Al-Thalathini Street as well as the reopening of the Port Said Book Authority in Port Fouad area.
The celebrations will continue throghout the whole year presenting over 100 cultural activities in different venues of Port Said, indoors as well as in open air areas, parks and gardens.
The events take place under the patronage of the presidency, the culture ministry and Governor of Port Said, Adel El-Ghadban.
Among the attractions of 2021 are theatre, music, folkloric art shows, films screenings, book fairs, exhibitions, seminars, cultural salons, workshops for traditional crafts, literary meetings and storytelling. In addition to tours across the architectural gems of the city, Suez Canal and the museums.
Initially, the celebrations of Port Said, as Egypt's capital of culture, were to take place last year but due to the pandemic it was moved to 2021.
