Egyptian National Theatre Festival opens submission for its 14th edition

The deadline ends on 31 August for submission to the 14th edition of the important local theatre festival

Egyptian theatre troupes, critics and researchers are called to submit their participations in the 14th edition of the Egyptian National Theatre, taking place between 27 September and 9 October, with the deadline ending on 31 August.

Under the leadership of Ismael Mokhtar, the accepted plays must be produced by local cast between 1 July 2020 and 31 August 2021 and prove a minimum of two nights staging, in addition to providing other documents that include CVs of the writer and director as well as censorship authorities’ approvals.

Submissions are also open for other competitions such as theatre critical writing and theoretical research.

In the 13th edition, ran in January, the festival hosted 29 performances on 14 stages across Cairo, including the Cairo Opera Houses' Grand Hall and Al-Hanager Theatre, as well as the National Theatre, Tali’a, El-Gomhoreya, and other theatres.

Among the performances were the Artistic House's hits The Optimist, staged by the National Theater troupe, Tales’ Shadow by El-Ghad Theater, Harem Al-Nar by Al-Tali’a Theater, Afrah Al-Qobba, and The Miser by the Youth Theatre troupe.

The honorees of the last edition included actors Salah El-Sa'adany, Sohier El-Morshidy, Mahmoud Yassin, El-Montaser Bellah, Naguib Sorour, as wel as director Abbas Ahmed.
