The musical comedy is scheduled to launch on 15 December at Sobhy's Sonbol City theatre on the Cairo-Alexandria Road.

Starring Sobhy alongside Wafaa Sadek and members of his Actor Studio troup, the new play is written by Mostafa Shohib, with songs written by Abdullah Hassan and composed by Sherif Hemdan.

The musical tackles a number of social issues facing the modern Egyptian family.

Eila Etaamallaha Block is the second cooperation between Mohamed Sobhy and Egypt’s leading production company United Media Services (UMS) group.

Sobhy, 74, who set a record building theatres in Egypt with five theatre halls, has recently celebrated his 50-year career by paying tribute to over 100 artists in an event titled 50 Sana Fann (50 Years of Art).

The 1970 graduate of the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts launched his fruitful career in 1968, performing in over 40 theatre shows, 22 films and 25 TV series, with many being among the most popular Arab classics.

With Al-Karnak (1975) and Hona Al-Qahera (1985) being among his most notable films, Sobhy was the maker of Enta Horr, Al-Joker, El-Hamagy, El-Hamagy, Takhareef, Weghet Nazar and other significant shows. Sobhy garnered a huge fan-base through his few but influential series, including Sonbol and Yawmeyat Wanis, which aired between 1994 and 2013 with a total of about 300 episodes.
