The Super Mario Bros in cinemas

The 2023 animated film follows a plumber named Mario who travels through an underground labyrinth with his brother, Luigi, trying to save a captured princess. Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, the film was released across international cinemas on 5 and 6 April this year.

Gowa El-Sandouk (Inside the Box)

Amir Taz Palace, 27 Al-Syoufiya St, off Al-Saliba St, Al-Khalifa District, Cairo

Directed by Eslam Emam, the play features numerous young talented actors. Emam is among the known Egyptian theatre directors. His work titled The Optimist which was an adaptation of Voltaire's Candide, was one of the most successful performances of 2020; it garnered numerous awards at the 13th National Theatre Festival (2021). 

El-Tanboura troupe

El Damma Theatre, 30A El Belaasa Str, Abdeen, Cairo

The popular El-Tanboura troupe keeps alive old tunes once heard all over Port Said, Suez and Ismailia. El-Tanbura was established by Zakaria Ibrahim in 1988 in Port Said, when he brought together the masters of the simsimia, encouraging them in the revival of their musical heritage. 

Two dance performances in one night
How El Fann Began and (Un-)Identified Movements

Jesuit Cultural Center - Alexandria

How El Fann Began is a personal point of view from the artist no. 249817 and his experience of the art scene. (Un-)Identified Movements is a multidisciplinary performance that merges between dance, music and video installation while seeking to present dance in new dimensions and new perspectives.

Wala Fi El-Ahlam - musical theatre
Friday 5, Saturday 6, Sunday 7 May, 8pm
Kasr El-Nil Theatre, off Tahrir Square, Cairo Downtown

Premiering in February 2023, the play Wala Fi El-Ahlam had several runs until Ramadan. It now returns to Downtown’s Kasr El-Nil Theatre. Directed by Hany Afifi, this romantic comedy takes place in the 1960s where two brothers create a potion allowing them to escape reality and reach their wildest dreams.

Said El-Artist concert

Tahrir Cultural Centre, Tahrir Sq, Cairo

In his debut appearance at the Tahrir Cultural Centre, the master tabla player Said El-Artist will present dozens of his students in a grand concert spanning multiple generations of rhythmic colors.

Break A Leg, Vol 2

Break A Leg is a series of one day events that present a variety of dance performances. The Vol 2 will showcase 3 different contemporary dance performances: Mountain Trail by Samar Ezzat, Trio by Ziad Wallace, Ziad Medhat and Mohanad Azzam, and How El Fann Began by Mounir Saeed. The latter performance is also staged at Jesuit Cultural Center - Alexandria on 4 May. 

Screening of Alphaville (1965)

Alphaville - A Strange Adventure of Lemmu Caution, is a multi-award winning film written and directed by Jean-Luc Godard and starring Eddie Constantine, Anna Karina and Akim Tamiroff. The plot revolves around A U.S. secret agent who is sent to the distant space city of Alphaville where he must find a missing person and free the city from its tyrannical ruler.

The screening is part of the EU FILM SCREENINGS, a collaborative project that presents numerous European films across Alexandria’s foreign cultural centres.
