Recently established Upper Egyptian cultural movement El-Mothakafeen El-Godod ('The New Intellectuals') condemned Sunday's terrorist attack in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula that left 16 Egyptian border guards dead and demanded an immediate investigation of the incident.
In a Tuesday statement, the movement, which is headed by Abdel-Hafez Bakheit Metwalli, demanded that President Mohamed Morsi and Egypt's military council reveal the perpetrators of the attack to the Egyptian public.
El-Mothakafeen El-Godod is a group of writers and intellectuals based in central and Upper Egypt. It was established in the wake of last year's uprising with the aim of combating the cultural and social marginalisation of Upper Egypt.
The group also seeks to preserve and consolidate the literature and creative heritage of Upper Egypt and its people.
