National Theatre Festival: Last days 
 

Egyptian theatre lovers are in for a treat in Cairo this week. Several activities within the 16th edition of the Egyptian National Theatre Festival are still on until 12 August at many theatres; including the Cairo Opera House’s Hanager and Creativity Centre, Cairo National Theatre, Al-Taleia, Miami, Al-Ghad, Al-Gomhouria, al-Salam, and the Floating Theatre.

More than 37 plays are being staged, in addition to a variety of workshops, masterclasses, and seminars.

The award winners will be unveiled at the closing ceremony in Cairo Opera House on Monday 14 August.

20th Bibliotheca Alexandrina Int'l Summer Festival
 

Alexandria is offering a variety of entertainment and cultural activities. The 20th Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Summer Festival, which runs from 3 August-1 September, offers an extensive line-up of concerts, theatre plays, stand-up comedy, workshops, lectures for musicians, family activities, and more.

New Alamein Entertainment Festival
 

The New Alamein Entertainment Festival has been entertaining thousands with an extraordinary celebration of music, culture, shopping, and sports since kicking off on 13 July and until it ends in early September.

Among the highlights of this weekend are music concerts for star performers from various genres; like Bahaa Sultan, Carole Samaha, and Omar Khairat on Thursday; Massar Egbari and Reda El-Bahrawy on Friday; and more.

 

El-Batta El-Safra in cinemas
 

El-Batta El-Safra (The Yellow Duck), a new comedy starring Ghada Adel, Mohamed Abdul Rahman and Mahmoud Hafez, is coming to several cinemas on Wednesday.

The film tells the story of Ahmed Wafik, a psychology researcher who is forced to collaborate with Rasha, a field researcher who is a dangerous criminal.

Together they are involved in an adventure that changes his entire life.

Many Egyptian films are already heating up the summer season box-office race, including the latest releases Marei El-Breemo by Mohamed Henedy and Aal-Zero by Mohamed Ramadan, among others.

Meanwhile, New Western movies released this week include Run Rabbit Run, The Secret Kingdom, Gran Turismo, and A Haunting in Venice.

Al-Hadra at the Cairo Opera House 
 

Summer activities continue in Cairo, Alexandria and Damanhour Opera Houses with a variety of cultural events.

If you’re in Cairo; the highlights of this week include a performance of the Al-Hadra Sufi troupe at the Open Theatre on Friday 11 August.
