'For Heaven's Sake, Icarus' wins two awards at 30th Cairo Int'l Festival for Experimental Theatre

The Egyptian play 'For Heaven's Sake, Icarus' won the Best Performance and Best Actor awards at the 30th Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre (CIFET).

The festival, which runs between 1 and 8 September, concluded with a grand ceremony held at the Cairo Opera House on Friday.

The winner of the Best Performance award - For Heaven's Sake, Icarus (directed by Ahmed Ezzat El-Alfi) was one of two Egyptian shows at this year's competition, which featured a total of 18 plays from diverse countries. One more Egyptian play, titled Frida, was performed on the sidelines of the festival.

Khaled Raafat, portraying the play's protagonist, won the Best Actor award.

The Best Director award went to Gia Dimitri from Georgia for her production of Othello.

Algerian actress Asmaa El-Sheikh won the Best Actress award for her role in a play titled Nostalgia, while Michael Fabrice from Congo received the Best Playwright award.

This year’s CIFET was presided over by Sameh Mahran, with Mohamed El-Shafei as its general coordinator.
