New heads of Egypt's theatre and folk arts to be appointed soon: Culture Minister

Egypt's Ministr of Culture says new heads in the theatre and folk arts sectors will be appointed soon and that his office director - accused of corruption - stays

Minister of Culture Mohamed Saber Arab confirms that the ministry is currently undergoing a major reshuffle that includes folk arts and public theatres, Al-Ahram Arabic-language news site reports on Sunday.

"The changes in several departments are not yet final, since the committee in charge of the reshuffle has not finished interviewing all the candidates," Al-Ahram quoted Mohamed Saber Arab.

Arab says that such changes are not radical and are in line with legal mechanisms that authorise the ministry's committees to choose candidates for each of those positions.

"My office director, General Hassan Khalaf will remain in office for the length of his assignment term," says the minister. This comes following rumours that the minister has dismissed Khalaf after the ministry's employees filed many grievances against Khalaf, demanding his dismissal for corruption.

Minister Arab had previously emphasised in an interview with Al-Ahram that changes are within the ministry's regular end-of-term duties and "that they are not related to the creation of a new movement or ideology within the ministry."
