Sharm El-Sheikh Int’l Theatre Festival for Youth wraps up its Poland monodrama edition

The monodrama edition of the Sharm El-Sheikh International Theatre Festival for Youth (SITFY), launched in Poland, ended on 23 April.

The events of the first SITFY Poland took place between 20 and 23 April in Kraków, a historical city in southern Poland. 

The closing ceremony began with a performance by Polish artist Tomasz Katra.

The festival honored French playwright Jean-Pierre Martinez and Kosovar actor Mirsad Ferati; then, awards were distributed.

The Best Integrated Award went to a play from Romania titled Don't Revenge Us, written by Ionut Poclid, and directed by Ella Nistor. The team also scored the Best Actress Award for Silvia Raileanu.

Artist Valbona Xibri won the Best Director Award for Burrnesha - Sworn Virgin (Italy), while Sara Giacomelli won the Best Playwright Award for the same play.

Youssef Al-Balushi won the Best Scenography Award for Something is Gnawing in My Head (Oman). Ahmed El-Oweiny portraying the play’s protagonist won the Best Actor Award.

In its first edition, SITFY Poland presented seven monodramas in competition, selected from over 50 submissions by the Polish-Egyptian committee, and an honorary performance.

The countries presenting their plays included Spain, Italy, Romania, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Kosovo.

The festival staged all plays at the Dworek Białoprądnicki Cultural Center in Kraków.

SITFY Poland is organized by the Sharm El-Sheikh International Theatre Festival for Youth (SITFY), headed by Mazen El-Gharabawy and Engy El-Bestawy, and the KITE Theatre, headed by Zien Rashad and Monika Hess-Rashad.
