Elham Shaheen appointed honourary president of Eazees International Women’s Theatre Festival

In its second edition, Eazees International Women’s Theatre Festival appointed Elham Shaheen as the festival’s honourary president.

Born in Cairo in 1960, Shaheen launched her career on the hands of director Kamal Yassin who gave her a role in his play made for television Hooreya men Al Marikh (Mermaid from Mars).

She then went on to star in numerous TV series, including Akhu El Banat (Brother of the Sisters), Al El Bahr (The Ocean Said), Hatta la Yakhtaniq Al-hob (So Love Doesn't Suffocate), Nisf Rabia Al Akhar (The Second Half of Spring), Layaly El-Helmeya (Nights of Helmeya), and Samhoony, Makansh Asdy (I'm Sorry...I didn't Mean To).

She also won many awards, for her roles in The Gentle and Ya Dunia Ya Gharamy (Oh World, Oh my Love).

This year, the EIWTF bears the name of Aida Abdel-Aziz, a renowned actress who passed away in 2022.

Abdel-Aziz’s (1936-2022) career included tens of roles in theatre and in cinema.

In Cinema, She took part in memorable films such as The Land (1970), and Something in My Chest (1971), The Queen’s Honey (1985), The Panther and the Female (1987), Al Sitt Hoda (1996), and Heliopolis (2010).

Her film roles include Al-nemr wa al-ontha (1987); Bawabat Iblees (1993); Afarit Al Asfalt (1996); Wall of Heroism (1998); Mahrous, the Minister's Attaché (1999); I Love Cinema (2004), Bedoon Reqaba (2009); and Al Harami wa Al Abeet (2013)

This is accompanied by roles in TV series such as those in Ayam Al Mounira (1994); Wanis' Daily Life (1994); The Game (1999), Devil's Tunnel (2008); The Fall of the Caliphate (2010); Malika fee al-Manfa (2010); and Heatwave (2013).

The Eazees International Women’s Theatre Festival is presided over by actress Abeer Lotfy, and director Abeer Aly and theatre critic Rasha Abdel-Moneim are the festival’s directors.
