Egypt's Supreme Council for Culture (SCC) has on Monday discussed a number of proposals and suggestions to develop its work and amend the law of its establishment, which was issued in 1980.

The meeting was attended by culture minister Mohamed Saber Arab and SCC secretary-general Said Tawfiq.

The meeting emphasised that the SCC draws up all cultural policies of the state, which is the original purpose of its creation, and underscored the need for coordination between different sectors of the ministry with regard to publishing and all cultural activities.

It also stressed on following up on the implementation of cultural policies, supporting active NGOs and highlighted the importance of having an independent budget for the council.

The SCC meeting also underlined the need to modify the mechanisms of forming committees within the Council and the granting of state awards.

The SCC also it would promote religious tolerance, democracy and the civil nature of the state as part of its cultural tendency.
