MasterPeace is collaborating with arts project Mashrou ElMareekh in organising two events on Friday and Saturday in Cairo, aiming to spotlight issues, such as stereotyping, acceptance, and the right to free speech and expression.
MasterPeace is a global movement for peace-building. It is a result of East-West cooperation with the support of various NGOs, artists and social entrepreneurs. MasterPeace aims at opening a space for dialogue despite the ongoing wars and conflicts worldwide, according to their official Facebook page. In this context, they cooperated with Mashrou ElMareekh to unite their efforts.
Mashrou ElMareekh or Mars Project focuses on the right of self-expression. They organise ‘open mic’ events, where they create a platform for young individuals across the country to express their thoughts, views and emotions in various forms, including music, poetry, stand-up comedy, among others.
In the open mic events, there is "no censorship, no judgment, and no hierarchy," where people are encouraged to speak openly about a topic of their choice, according to their official Facebook page.
This Friday, an open discussion will be held at Bikya Book Cafe in Maadi, tackling the issue of stereotyping and how people make false judgments as a result of generalisation.
On Saturday, the discussion, which will take place in front of Sawy Cultural Wheel in Zamalek, will tackle the meaning of acceptance, regardless of any racial, social or religious differences, and assessing whether or not the notion of unconditional acceptance is viable.
Both events are open for the public to attend and participate, regardless of age or background.
