Culture Minister Mohamed Saber Arab has honoured a number of artists and intellectuals for their years of contribution to Egypt's artistic and cultural life.

The event took place after a performance of Asheen Torabek at the Taleea Theatre on Thursday 12 September.

Certificates were awarded to novelist Bahaa Taher - who also received a special award, author Fatheya El-Assal, Cairo Opera House chairperson Ines Abdel-Dayem and actors Sameh El-Sereety and Sabry Fawaz.

Several award winners had participated in the sit-in held against former culture minister Alaa Abdel-Aziz between 5 and 30 June 2013.

Arab praised the performance of Asheen Torabek, stating the theatre remained one of the most significant and influential art forms that can spread enlightenment across Egypt.

Asheen Torabek is an 'El-Saha' troupe production, written by Yasser Allam and directed by Mohamed El-Sharkawy.
