'Herding Chimeras' exhibition in Darb 1718
Egyptian artist and illustrator Amro Okacha and Swiss artists Olivier Gschwend and Anthony Martins de Macedo will be displaying a collection of their work in a joint effort in Darb 1718. 'Hidden Chimeras' will feature paintings by Okacha, photography by Gschwend and poetry by de Macedo. Okacha's work, a project titled '1765.8 Miles in a Point,' explores the day-to-day similarities in the lives of an Egyptian and a Swiss citizen and the merging aspects of the two different societies they both inhabit. Gschwend, meanwhile, in 'Surrogate Language,' attempts to express himself through a series of photographs depicting artists who are themselves trying to express their own feelings in their artwork. De Macedo's poetry will be featured in the opening night performance, 'PODY,' a half-hour poetry-painting performance reflecting the shock, disenchantment and brutality he experienced while discovering Cairo.

Coinciding with the third anniversary of the January 25 Revolution, the work presented will revolve around the political transformation that has unfolded in Egypt since 2011. The event is curated by Amr Salahuddien.

Note: Due to expected protests on the Egyptian Revolution's third anniversary on 25 January, many culture spaces have opted to not host events on this date and immediately before it. The likelihood of cancellation is high for those spaces that will host events on 25 January. Therefore Ahram Online ends its events recommendations with Thursday, 23 January, for this week.
