The story of Carmen is well known to Egyptian audiences. Based on a story by French author Prosper Merimee, the Spanish heroine who has made her way to George Bizet’s opera of the same name (premiering in 1875) has been staged at the Cairo Opera House numerous times. Dozens of other stagings of Carmen appeared on international stages since its premiere, usually to Bizet's music, presenting the Gypsy girl's story as theatre or dance shows.

The upcoming performances come as a result of a collaboration between Bibliotheca Alexandrina and Goethe-Institut Alexandria.

Programme:
Friday 26 November and Saturday 27 November, at 7pm
Bibliotheca Alexandrina (Alexandria Library), Main Hall, Alexandria
