“It is such an excitement to perform at a historic venue where legendary musicians like Mohamed Abdel-Wahab and other giants performed, singing for a very special crowd songs they enjoy, as well as my originals,” Mai Kamal said to Ahram Online on Saturday, a week before her concert.

Kamal, who recently released her first music video titled Edhaklaha, with lyrics by Reem Abou Elmakarem and produced by Maher Elmallakh, will also perform her earlier original titled West El-Zaham, written by Sherif Abdel-Megid, which they produced last year.

“I’m very excited to perform Edhaklaha on stage for the first time,” Mai Kamal expressed, adding that she is “planning more performances and originals,” thanking her crew and collaborators, and inviting fans to attend her concert.

In addition to performing her versions of beloved traditional songs like Yalally, Lama Bada Yatathanna, Fi Alb El-Leil of Ali El-Haggar, Bent El-Shalabia of Fairouz, Yunis of Mohamed Mounir, Mai will also perform Atasha, Hobbek Aseel, Gharb El-Gezeira and other covers of songs by her mother, veteran singer Afaf Radi. It’s even possible they may share the same stage together for one song.

The live performance has been arranged by acclaimed George Kolta, Ahmed El-Haggar and Mohamed Essam.

Mai Kamal will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra that merges a string section with piano, clarinet, percussion and drums.

The gifted performer has been featured frequently by Radi in a number of widely-seen TV interviews, with her last appearance in concert at the 30th Arab Music Festival in early November, where she celebrated her collaboration with legendary composer Baligh Hamdi.

With her skilled voice, Mai Kamal started exploring her music career in early 2019, throwing a number of concerts in different venues and events with a repertoire that varied between Western Jazz standards, traditional Oriental songs as well as operatic singing.
