PRESIDENT Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi appointed Boulos Fahmi as the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court on 9 February. Fahmi, who was vice president of the court, is the first Copt ever to hold such a high-ranking position in the court’s history.

Fahmi, 65, replaces outgoing judge Said Marei Amr, who retired for health reasons.

The decision was widely acclaimed. Since coming to power, President Al-Sisi has reached out to Coptic Egyptians, seeking to address their concerns and ensuring their equal rights to all positions in the state.
