The meeting, which took place at Ittihadiya Palace, marked the start of Lourenço’s three-day visit to Egypt. The two African leaders stressed the importance of benefiting from transboundary water resources in compliance with international law.
Lourenço said Angola, the current president of the African Union, is committed to implementing Agenda 2063, “The Africa We Want”, and Silencing the Guns Initiative.
The two presidents called for ending hostilities in Sudan, rejecting attempts to establish a parallel government in Egypt’s southern neighbour, the statement added.
They also expressed concern over the escalating wave of terrorism in Somalia, especially after the recent attempt on the life of Somalia’s president.
Al-Sisi and Lourenço called for boosting investment and trade between the two countries. Bilateral trade recorded $34.2 million in 2024, marking a 60 per cent increase on 2023.
