Summer is back and the new cultural season kicks off with, among other performances across the urban landscape, the traditional, Sufi-rooted tannoura whirling dancers, who will be performing at the 16th-century Sultan Al-Ghouri complex.
An Egyptian version of the Mevlevi invocation ritual associated with the great 13th-century poet and mystic Jalaluddin Rumi, the tannoura show is a staple of the open-air season.
