With the advent of summer comes the need to refresh your swimwear wardrobe, especially when planning visits to coastal resorts and sandy beaches for that long-awaited vacation.

When it comes to shopping for swimwear, most of us opt for the fit or style or even brand one loves and then sticks with it. Yet, this summer it may be a good idea to focus on the silhouette, age profile, and fashion trends of the season for a change.

Texture, pattern, and shine are important in this season’s swimsuits, along with a nostalgic nod to the 1980s and 90s. The monokini and tankini are both making triumphant comebacks, and they come in a variety of cut-out styles and cropped lengths.

From sporty one-pieces and long-sleeve wetsuits to cut-outs, graphic prints, crochets and burkinis, this year’s designs will help you trust yourself, also hiding any imperfections and accentuating the silhouette while respecting fashion trends.

Here are some runway-inspired swimwear trends to try this summer:

Sporty one-piece:

This style is ideal for those who prefer extra mid-section coverage. It looks flattering on nearly any body type, and it’s on the rise this summer. You can pair it with a mini-skirt or shorts for a beach-friendly daytime look.

Tankini:

This trend was popular in the early 2000s and is now returning as a nostalgic trend. Interesting cuts like high-neck, halter, and high-waist silhouettes are some of the most popular styles this summer.

Long-sleeves:

Slipping into long-sleeve swimwear is an instant way to add another layer of protection to your summer skincare regimen. This style can prevent sunburn on a scorching hot day and help you enjoy basking in the sun with less worry.

Graphic prints:

This style can be your way to a trendy bathing suit this summer.

Cut-outs:

Bad tan lines or not, the cut-out trend this year is proof that resort wear is all about aesthetics. Any awkward lines can be figured out later. This style is a hybrid between a one-piece and a bikini, and the result is undeniably striking.

Colour-blocking:

Whether on a bikini or a one-piece with a simple cut-out, colour-blocking is the minimalistic approach to this season’s swimwear. It is modern, trendy, and really slimming.

Monokini:

While it may leave you with some funky tan lines, a monokini will also emphasise an hour-glass body shape and get you lots of attention. It’s a cross between a one-piece and a bikini, typically completed with skin-baring cut-outs.

Burkinis:

This style is great for women who want to wear something that covers them up and yet still look fashionable. Burkinis this summer are available in vibrant colours and stunning designs that compliment your curves in a modest way.

Crochet:

Crochet is crawling its way to the top of the year’s best swimwear trends given its natural, care-free vibes. Colourful knitted tankinis and cover-ups have a fun and youthful energy, while neutral crochet pieces exude an air of classical minimalism.
