At Cordoba art gallery, an exhibition of paintings by artist and poet Magdy Naguib is scheduled to open on 5 September.
The exhibition includes 30 oil paintings of different sizes reflecting an oeuvre that extends from the early 1960s to the present.
Using popular motifs and a distinctive palette, the artist shows the influence of folk art, Coptic art and Pharaonic in works that are both authentic and contemporary.
In addition to being an artist, Naguib is a lyricist who has written songs for some of Egypt’s best loved singers including the later Abdel Halim Hafiz’s Kamil alawsaf(Flawless) and Mohamed Mounir’s Shababeek (Windows).
Now an octogenarian, Naguib says of his own work thatit embodies a 50-year journey on which the attempt to transcend reality and the pressures of daily life combined to create a unique mythos.
The exhibition will remain on view until 15 September.
