Wed 2, 7-8pm (GMT+2): “Impact Investing and Inclusive Capital Markets”, join this session of the Gerhart Center Webinar Series featuring Margot Brandenburg, senior programme officer, Mission Investments at Ford Foundation.
The session will discuss the size of impact investing and ‘sustainable’ finance markets, types of actors in the field (asset managers: bespoke managers, mainstream managers with impact products, versus asset owners: HNI individuals, banks, pension funds, foundations, companies), recent developments in practice, policy and regulation, and norms, as well as challenges facing the industry. Brandenburg will talk about Ford Foundation as an impact investor.
The webinar will also take a look at the relationship between impact investing and the rest of the capital markets. In addition, she will explain regional variations and trends in the US, Europe, China, and the MENA region.

Latin American Literature Week 

Diwan bookstores’ first collaboration with 15 Latin American embassies in Cairo, Egypt, to celebrate the enriching literature of Latin America. For a duration of one week, starting 23 May until 30 May, Diwan will be hosting a live virtual launching event and eight live talks with inspiring writers and scholars from different Latin American countries. All the talks will be in English and will be streamed live on Diwan’s Facebook and Twitter pages. To be translated into Arabic soon.

 

Schedule of the Latin American Literature Week: 

Thurs 27, 8pm: Julián Fuks from Brazil, is interviewed by Egyptian novelist Rasha Samir, to talk about his novel Resistance.  

Fri 28, 8pm: Laura Esquivel from Mexico will talk about her novel Like Water for Chocolate, to be interviewed by Diwan team, led by Layal Al-Rustom

Sat 29, 8pm: The Colombian James Cañón’s novel Tales from the Town of Widows: And Chronicles from the Land of Men will be discussed by Nada El Shabrawy from Diwan.  

Sun 30, 8pm: Presentation on Uruguayan writer, philosopher, and educator José Enrique Rodó (1872-1917), on his 150th birth anniversary, by member of the Rodonian Society of Uruguay Professor Alejandro Cásares

Italian Cultural Institute 

Italy is celebrating the 700th death anniversary of Dante Alighieri, from 12 March to 4 July 2021. So, the Italian Institute continues to post videos in Arabic with translations from Dante Alighieri’s masterpiece The Divine Comedy to bring the Arab-speaking public closer to the work of the supreme poet. Videos are directed by Giabluca Barbadori, with the special participation of Ashraf Farouk, Amir Salaheddin, Sherine Hegazy, and Sara El-Mokadem.

After the presentation of the new Cairo Milano Design platform, in collaboration with Al-Ahram Organisation and El Beit Magazine and FuoriSalone.it, the focus of the Italian Cultural Institute continues on design. The IIC Director Davide Scalmani interviews, online in May, the young Egyptian designer Nano Mahgoub about her artistic and professional experience in Milan as an example of creativity between Italy and Egypt.
