Tues 18, 6.30-8.30pm (GMT+2): The Nadia Younes Memorial Lecture has, over the years, hosted a broad range of speakers from the world of global affairs. This year’s guest speaker is Khaled El-Enany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities. The ethos of the lecture series is to provide a global perspective on issues affecting Egypt and the Middle East and to provide prescriptive solutions to these problems.

Fri 13, 2pm: Storytelling and workshop event on Hekayat Gedo Haamu Fi Askandria (Tales of Grandpa Haamu in Alexandria) children's book. It introduces the writer German author Kristin Jankowski with storyteller Ahmed Agami. The book is illustrated by Lamya Sharaby and translated by Reem Shamel. It tells the fantastic story of Haamu and his four animal friends who are making an amazing trip in Alexandria. In his yellow taxi, Haamu introduces Donkey Donkey, Lilly Llama, Gigi Giraffe and Hany Hippo to Egyptian history, architecture and culture, together they experience the meaning of a deep friendship. Visual artist Abdel-Rahman Karim and his assistant Mirette Azmy will make the characters of the book come alive during an amazing workshop for children. With the help of clay and colours, kids will learn how to analyze objects and how to transform them into geometrical shapes. Children can also take a photo with Haamu in his taxi!

Thurs 20, 5.30pm (open to the public): “The Electronic Bill System and its Benefits”, a lecture by Mustafa Abdel-Qader, the former Head of the Tax Authority.   




Italian Cultural Institute 

Italy celebrated the 700th anniversary of the passing of Dante Alighieri in 2021. The Italian Institute continues to post videos in Arabic with translations from Dante Alighieri’s masterpiece The Divine Comedy to bring the Arab-speaking public closer to the work of the supreme poet. Videos are directed by Giabluca Barbadori, with the special participation of Ashraf Farouk, Amir Salaheddin, Sherine Hegazy, and Sara El-Mokadem.
