Sat 26, 8am-9pm: “The 2022 Tomorrow’s Leaders Annual Symposium” will serve as a regional platform connecting community-led initiatives across the region actively working on achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with scholars, decision-makers and relevant stakeholders in one setting to foster knowledge sharing, and design solutions to existing challenges. In this second edition, the symposium will present research findings and highlight efforts made by community-led initiatives in relation to two Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SDG4 for “Quality Education” and SDG5 for “Gender Equality”. The symposium is divided into: Research papers presentation about aforementioned SDGs followed by a corresponding discussion. Panel Discussion about the SDGs highlighted in the theme and the community-led initiatives working on them. Open Discussion about the challenges facing the Community-Led initiatives.

Fri 25, Sat 26, Sun 27, 5pm: “The Factory of the Sustainable City 2022: Cities in Transition in the Face of Climate Change”, is a three-day symposium presents around 20 Egyptian and regional initiatives. Stands, presentations, calls for projects, search for volunteers; the general public will be invited to discover and participate in these initiatives around central issues: waste management, air pollution, water management, soft mobility, etc. The speakers will also present their actions during short interventions and films in the auditorium. This symposium will examine and sift through recent, regional and international research devoted to the manifestations of climate change and its often-dramatic consequences – drought, extreme climates, floods, urban heat islands.
Italian Cultural Institute
Italy celebrated the 700th anniversary of the passing of Dante Alighieri in 2021. The Italian Institute continues to post videos in Arabic with translations from Dante Alighieri’s masterpiece The Divine Comedy to bring the Arab-speaking public closer to the work of the supreme poet. Videos are directed by Giabluca Barbadori, with the special participation of Ashraf Farouk, Amir Salaheddin, Sherine Hegazy, and Sara El-Mokadem.

Fri 25, 2pm: The opening of the second annual theatre conference, “Independent and Marginalized Voices in Egyptian Theatre”. With a keynote speech by acclaimed theatre maker Hassan El-Geretly, the event will feature panels and discussions highlighting the struggles of independent and marginalized artists in the Egyptian theatre scene, and finding ways to support them. The conference will also provide workshops on storytelling and playback theatre and will be dedicated to the memory of esteemed theatre artist and AUC Professor Mahmoud El-Lozy.
Oriental Hall
Thurs 24, 6-8pm: “Living a Creative Life”, a conversation with accordionist, composer, songwriter, singer, and actress Youssra El-Hawary with Chelsea Green, Director of the AUC Music Programme, and James Ketterer, SCE Dean.
El-Hawary will discuss the role of creativity in everyday life and how we can all capture and channel it. In addition, she will perform some of her signature music and demonstrate the creative process at work.

Thurs 24, 10am - Sat 26, 6pm: “Trial and Error – 100/100 Symposium 2022 Cairo Edition” is presented by the Graphic Design programme where a diverse group of designers and creatives from Egypt, Emirates, Lebanon, and Switzerland will hold six workshops and a panel discussion under the theme “Trial and Error”. The project is a partnership between the AUC, the GUC and Warehouse 421 in the United Arab Emirates. The three-day symposium features 6 graphic design workshops by Erich Brechbühl (CH), Archief Cairo (EG), Cairo Print Club (EG), Mobius Studio (UAE), Nora Aly and Ahmed Hammoud (EG), and Wael Morcos (LB).
The 100/100 symposium is a selected project of "On the Road Again" open call 2021 which supports projects that bring together art and cultural institutions from across the Arab Region and Switzerland in various art disciplines.
The symposium will discuss and generate workshops on the role of “quick and dirty” designs, unconventional approaches, without overthinking and with space to create something unexpected, in terms of all aspects we can use as creatives, such as concepts, slogans, type design, illustration, layouts and/or production.
