Wed 25, 7-8pm: A presentation, discussion and signing of A History of Arab Graphic Design book by authors Haytham Nawar and Bahia Shehab. The book tells the stories of the people and events that shaped the way graphic design looked in the Arab world. Shehab and Nawar look at the work of more than 80 designers from Morocco to Iraq. They look at the period from before 1900 to the end of the twentieth century. Shehab is professor and founder of the graphic design programme at the American University in Cairo. An artist, designer, and art historian. Nawar is chair of the department of the arts at the American University in Cairo and the founder and artistic director of Cairotronica, a festival of electronic and new media arts in Cairo.
Italian Cultural Institute
The cultural association Energheia Felice Lisanti of Matera, with the patronage of Basilicata Region and in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo, announce the “Energheia Egypt” Literary Competition. All Italian citizens resident or domiciled in Egypt and Egyptian citizens over the age of 18 can participate in the competition, by sending an unpublished short story, written in Italian with a free subject and no longer than seven pages (25 lines per page). The story must be sent, together with the attached participation form, by email no later than 30 May 2022, to the following address:

In the heart of the city of Alexandria, “Odyssées 2.0” 10th edition of the literary encounters “Writing the Mediterranean” embraces the centuries to immerse guests in a contemporary reflection on the Mediterranean story by summoning literature, poetry and the digital. Three main chapters will punctuate these meetings: Mediterranean stories of yesterday and today, new forms of storytelling and economic models of digital writing. Thurs 19, 4.30pm (Free entry): “Digital Entrepreneurship in Culture and Literature” a musical reading and photo of excerpts from Trésor National, the first novel in French by Franco-Turkish writer Sedev Esser and accompanied by one of the most beautiful Turkish voices, Julai Hasir Turk.
Thurs 19, 7pm (Free entry): “Communication Between Yesterday and Today” a panel discussion on digital culture in the Mediterranean with Karim Amalal, Eric Sadin and Mohamed Ali Midani (Founder of DCX), and Adly Thoma
(Founder of Gemini Africa), the dialogue is moderated by journalist Samira Ibrahim. (All entries are translated into Arabic or French).
