Thurs 20, 6pm: On the occasion of the bicentenary of the deciphering of hieroglyphs by Champollion, French writer Pascale Bellamy will present her first novel, The Hidden Temple of Zerzura, or the Epic of Amon Stone, published by Douro publishing House in 2021. The novel evokes Siwa’s Pharaonic past and its legends.

Fri 21, 1.30pm: The media library invites its young audience (age 8-12) to a series of reading clubs around the International Gems offered by the French Institute and the Youth Book and Press Fair. Reading and discovery sessions with Lucia Salgueiro, teacher at Sacré-Cœur College and youth workshops specialist.

Sun 23, 6pm: “From Coptic to Hieroglyphs: In the Shadow of Champollion, the Coptic Priest Youhanna El-Chiftichi” seminar features Coptologist and Egyptologist Ashraf Sadek. As part of the bicentenary of the deciphering of hieroglyphs, Professor Sadek evokes the most important phase of this journey: the teaching of the Coptic language brought to Champollion by Father Youhanna El-Chiftichi. Knowledge of the Coptic language allowed Champollion to retrace the meaning of the hieroglyphs.

Sun 23, 6pm: Part of the 22nd edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World (17-23 October), a presentation of the book Il Sangue Del Falco (The Blood of The Hawk) by the Egyptologist and journalist Francesco Tiradritti, followed by the awards ceremony for the two competitions organized by the Italian Institute of Culture and for the M'illumino / D'immenso competition, Poetry Translation Award organized by Traduxit Laboratory, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute and the Swiss Embassy in Egypt: the winner, Reddad Cherrati (Casablanca, Morocco), will participate with a greeting video.
