Sat 18, 6-8pm: Part of the Ten Days of Architectural Fortitude - Architecture Leih? 4.0, British architect and professor Neil Leach will discuss “Alien Intelligence: AI and the Future of Architecture”. Leach is the Director of the Doctor of Design programme at FIU and co-founder of Digital FUTURES, an online educational platform that operates in eight languages; a former researcher for NASA, where he developed 3D printing technologies for the Moon and Mars; and a member of the Academia Europaea, Europe’s leading academy with over 50 Nobel laureates.

Sun 19, 1-2pm: “How Different Are We? Sexual Harassment Education in the US and Egypt” public lecture will feature guest speaker Jillian Campana, Professor, Department of the Arts and the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies, School 
of Humanities and Social Sciences at AUC. The lecture will explore the similarities and differences between anti-sexual harassment training and education in the US and Egypt. The ways in which we deal with sexual harassment and educate the general public about the issue are influenced by pervading attitudes toward sexual crimes, sexuality, gender, youth movements and cultural trends, so how different is our approach to sexual harassment education?

Mon 20, 1-2pm: “The Gaza War: Implications for the United States and Egypt” join this public panel discussion featuring professors David Dumke and Karim Haggag as they deliberate about the current daily escalations and the regional and international repercussions of the Gaza War.

Mon 20, 1pm-2.30pm: “Descartes and Elisabeth of Bohemia on Emotions and Emotional Control” in this talk, Ariane Schneck will focus on the lesser-known parts of the correspondence between Descartes and Elisabeth. In these letters, in which they discuss classical moral-ethical themes like virtue, the role of emotions and the happy life. Schneck will show that Elisabeth’s arguments influenced Descartes’s thinking significantly and that he even changed some of his central claims due to Elisabeth’s interventions.

Mon 20, 6-9.30pm: Part of the Ten Days of Architectural Fortitude - Architecture Leih? 4.0, renowned Japanese architect and Pritzker Architecture Prize Winner (2014) Shigeru Ban will talk about “Balancing Architectural Works and Social Contributions” 

Ban is known for innovative and empathetic brilliant designs using unconventional and inexpensive materials in the most efficient and resilient manner possible, especially with disaster victims. He was profiled by Time magazine in their projection of 21st-century innovators in the field of architecture and design.

Mon 20, 9am-3pm: “Artificial Intelligence: The New Frontier for Journalism and Media” the fifth Cairo Media Conference, hosted by the AUC and Oslo Metropolitan University. The conference, an annual gathering of industry professionals, academics and students to discuss the future of media, is held to discuss the opportunities offered by AI-powered technologies to the media industry and the challenges they could trigger.
Keynote speeches will be given by Arne Jensen, senior advisor to the Association of Norwegian Editors and Linet Kwamboka, senior programme manager at Data4Now, Kenya. Welcome remarks will be given by Noha El-Mikawy, dean of AUC’s School of Global Affairs and Public Policy and the opening speech will be given by Khaled El-Balshy, head of Egypt Journalists Syndicate.
