Mon 8, 1pm: “Forced Migration Narratives in the Contemporary Arabic Novel” a talk by Maria Elena Paniconi, Associate Professor of Arabic Language and Literature at the University of Macerata (Italy). Paniconi is the co-editor of The Migrant in Arab Literature: Displacement, Self-Discovery and Nostalgia (Routledge, 2023), her talk will focus on migration in Sudanese and Eritrean literary narratives.

Tues 9, 7pm, Cairo Time: Join an engaging virtual book talk with Safaruk Chowdhury, author of Islamic Theology and the Problem of Evil, newly released. In this rigorous study, Chowdhury examines four major dimensions of the problem of evil; human disability, animal suffering, evolutionary natural selection, and Hell, offering fresh insights into how Islamic theology has grappled with these enduring questions. A Q&A session with the author will follow the discussion. Chowdhury is faculty member at Cambridge Muslim College, Whitethread Institute in London and the Ibn Rushd Centre for Excellence for Islamic Research in Birmingham. Wed 10, 7pm: “Paradoxes of Pioneering and Concealment in Modern Egyptian Art” a conversation with Yasser Mongy, moderated by Sama Wally, held in conjunction with “Chafik Charobim: Lightmarks on Vanishing Points” exhibition. In celebration of the retrospective exhibition devoted to the Egyptian artist Chafik Charobim, a guest lecture by Yasser Mongy, an Associate Professor of graphic arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University, will address one of the complex issues in writing the history of modern Egyptian art; the intricate relationship between the mechanisms of artistic celebrity-making and the disappearance of several influential artists from dominant academic and historiographical narratives, despite their significant contributions to shaping Egyptian aesthetic sensibility.

The lecture seeks to highlight the need to rewrite the history of modern Egyptian art from a broader perspective. The talk will be conducted in Arabic with possible English translation (if needed).
