Manchester City have welcomed Omar Marmoush of Egypt to the city for a medical with the club on Tuesday 21 January, it has been reported. If all goes well, then Marmoush will be unveiled as their new striker and will join Erling Haaland as well as Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden.

According to The Telegraph, Marmoush is set to undergo a medical at Manchester City on Tuesday as part of the final stages of his switch from Bundesliga football to the Premier League.

The Premier League champions are understood to have reached an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for the transfer of their stand-out player of the ongoing season, in a clear sign of intent from City officials.

After consecutive days and weeks of conversations between the two clubs, it is widely understood that City have sanctioned an investment in the region of €75 million to bring Marmoush to the club as part of their squad rebuild. Despite having the robotic Haaland as their starting striker, City are still willing to fork out the money for the Egypt international.

The assumption is that Pep Guardiola gets the player he wanted to improve the attacking setup. The completion of the move will be subject to Marmoush passing his medical tests as well as ageing on personal terms with Manchester City, as either of those is unlikely to be problematic.

After 15 goals and 10 assists in his 17 Bundesliga appearances this season alone, Marmoush was quickly identified by Manchester City staff as the number one priority to bolster their attacking ranks for the remainder of the campaign and the future.

The Egyptian international bid farewell to his Eintracht Frankfurt teammates and supporters of the high-flying Bundesliga club last Friday, after they had confirmed before kick-off against Borussia Dortmund that the player would not feature in their squad.

The 25-year-old may even be registered in time for City’s Champions League clash at Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, but more likely their match against Chelsea next weekend.

City Xtra revealed that Marmoush, alongside his representatives, arrived in the north-west of England on Monday evening, touching down at Manchester Airport from Frankfurt shortly after 19.30 (UK).

According to RMC Sport, Manchester City have found a breakthrough and reached an agreement in principle with Eintracht Frankfurt for the transfer of Marmoush. The Premier League champions have been on the Egyptian’s trail for some time now and are now set to bring him to the club on a long-term deal. Since the opening of the January window, Marmoush was a player on the list of many clubs. But it was Manchester City which have apparently stolen the show.

Guardiola’s side have struggled this season on all fronts and had needed an attacker, as they chose to sign Marmoush from Frankfurt.

City have won the Premier League a record four times in a row and six out of the last seven seasons but this year are, as of writing, 12 points behind leaders Liverpool and have played a game more. City have 16 games left.

It would take an incredible sequence of results from City, and a complete collapse from Liverpool, for City to have any hope of retaining the title.

But they could finish in the top four and maybe second if they return to playing like their old selves.

Marmoush is currently expected to be the third arrival into Guardiola’s squad this month in order of official announcements, after Abdukodir Khusanov became the first formal unveiling on Monday evening.

Fellow central defensive recruit Vitor Reis is widely expected to be the second player to be formally unveiled by City this week, after arriving from Palmeiras in a deal worth in the region of £30 million.

It remains to be seen whether there will be any further business from City. However, the club remain open to the idea of bringing in a new defensive midfielder.

Juventus’ Douglas Luiz is one name mentioned in various quarters, however it is believed that City would only be wanting the Brazilian international on a short-term loan deal, while the Italian club want either a permanent sale this month, or a loan with obligation to buy.

Marmoush has been leading his team to victories, displaying incredible performances and setting goal records to his own tally and that of his German club. Marmoush was born on 7 February 1999 in Cairo. He played for Wadi Degla SC from 2016-2017, for VfL Wolfsburg from 2017-2021, for FC St. Pauli from 2021-2021, for VfL Wolfsburg from 2021-2021, for VfB Stuttgart from 2021-2022, for VfL Wolfsburg from 2022-2023 and has played for Eintracht Frankfurt since 2023.
