The caravan is a convoy of young people touring Egypt’s 27 governorates to raise awareness among children and those older about climate change, its repercussions, and how to curb its effects. The caravan is organised by the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Youth and Sports in cooperation with UNICEF.

Activities by the caravan include educating people on recycling waste and minimising the use of plastic, planting fruit trees, and showcasing successful stories of youths who adopt measures to curb climate change.

Besides initiatives such as the Green House, the convoy launched the People’s Voices for Climate with the participation of Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad. The event was organised by the Ministry of Environment in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). It was attended by Elena Panova, the UN resident coordinator in Cairo, Jeremy Hopkins, UNICEF representative in Cairo, Frederika Meijer, representative of the UN Population Fund in Cairo, Alessandro Fracassetti, resident representative of the UNDP, and Christian Berger, ambassador of the European Union in Cairo, in addition to a host of youngsters and officials from several countries.

As part of the activities to promote COP27’s Green Zone, a group of youths performed a play on how to maintain agricultural lands affected by the repercussions of climate change. Activities of this sort are held as a reflection of the discussions in the Blue Zone, also in the COP venue.
