Osman misses out on a semi-final spot by 0.61 seconds

Egyptian swimmer Farida Osman narrowly failed to reach the semis of the women's 100m butterfly event on Saturday.

Osman, winner of two bronze medals at the World Championship, finished 8th out of 8 swimmers in Heat 4, clocking 58.69 seconds.

She was just 0.61 seconds short of a place among the top 16, finishing 19th in the overall ranking of all heats.

The 26-year-old fared better in the same 100m butterfly event in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, having reached the semis before finishing 12th.

Farida’s next challenge will be on Wednesday when she appears in the 100m Freestyle event.
