Australia's U23 coach Graham Arrnold believes that as long as his side have destiny in their own hands, they can reach the Olympic Games quarters at the expense of Egypt as both sides meet in a crucial Group C clash on Wednesday.
Egypt, who bagged a solitary point from two games, have no option but to defeat Australia to stand a chance of reaching the knockout phase.
Group leaders Spain (four points) will take on Argentina, who are level with Australia on three points. in the other Group C match.
"We're sitting here today with qualification in our own hands so it's all up to us," Arnold told the Australian Football Association's official website on Tuesday.
"We're not relying on someone else having to beat someone else".
Arrnold hailed the depth of his squad, insisting that his side will not be affected by the absence of a suspended trio.
"We've got depth. We've got fresh players ready to go," he added.
"We've shown in the past we can play different systems, different players and we've got plenty of depth so you can't look at the negatives, I look at the positives.
"Okay, three players are suspended but they will be ready for the quarter-finals."
