Egyptian wrestlers Mohamed ibarahim Elsayed “Kesho” and Mahmoud Metwally have lived up to the expectations and qualified for the semifinals of the Greco-roman 67kg and 87kg events respectively on Tuesday.

Metwally, who will turn 26 this month, won by technical superiority (9-1) against 2021 European silver medalist Kiryl Maskevich of Ukraine in round of 16 and then made a demonstration of power against Cuban Daniel Gregorich by pinning him to the mat in just one round in the quarter final.

He will face the 2018 world silver medalist Viktor Lorincz of Hungary in the semis at 11:25 Cairo time (GMT+2).

In the 67kg category, 23-year-old Kesho defeated 7-6 veteran Korean wrestler Hasu Ryu (33), who won the world title in 2013 and 2017, in Round of 16. In the quarters he won by technical points (7-7) against Karen Aslanyan of Armenia.

The two-time U23 champion will face Parviz Nasibov of Ukraine in the semis at 11:20 Cairo time.

They both have good shots at medals as they need to win at least one of their next two games to get on the podium.
