The African Champions League winners Ahly had previously requested the AFCON date be moved up, as it is overlapping with the FIFA Club World Cup.

However, their request was turned down and the tournament will go ahead as scheduled by the CAF.

The 2022 AFCON will take place from 9 January until 6 February, while the FIFA Club World Cup will be from 3 to 12 February.

The Pharaohs will play in Group F in the AFCON alongside Nigeria and Guinea Bissau.

The 33rd edition of the biennial tournament will witness the participation of 24 teams for the second time.
