Seven-time African champions Egypt will be beginning their AFCON 2021 campaign with a clash against the Nigerian Super Eagles on Tuesday.

A few hours ahead of heading to Cameroon for the African Cup on Saturday, the Pharaohs were hit with the news that both Abo Gabal and El-Hadary were not going to travel with the team after testing positive for the coronavirus on Friday.

“Me and Abo Gabal are on our way to Garoua. We wish Egypt the best of luck today against Nigeria,” El-Hadary tweeted from Cairo International Airport on Tuesday morning.

On Monday, the EFA announced that the national team’s players have all tested negative for the coronavirus ahead of the anticipated AFCON opener against Nigeria.

Egypt is playing in the prestigious continental tournament in Group D alongside Nigeria, Sudan, and Guinea Bissau.

Egypt is aiming for its first AFCON title since 2010.
