Kelechi Ihenacho scored the winner in the 30th minute against a toothless Egyptian side.
“Egypt had only one thing in mind is to give the ball to Salah. So our strategy was simple: keep possession of the ball as much as possible and prevent it to reach Salah,” Eguavoen said after the game.
The Pharaohs failed to make an impact against the Nigerian Super Eagles and Mohamed Salah was barely noticed during the game.
The Liverpool winger, who has been shortlisted in the final 3 of the FIFA Best player of the year award, had only one clear chance on goal but his poor effort was denied by the keeper.
“We are happy with our start, it is a deserved win but now we have to focus on our next game and take it one step at a time,” Eguavoen concluded.
