Senegal boosted by return of injured trio while Sarr completes rehab in Spain

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) revealed on Wednesday the return of trio Saliou Ciss, Nampalys Mendy and Pape Matar Sarr after testing negative for COVID-19, while Ismaila Sarr will continue his rehab program in Spain.

The Teranga Lions were hit by COVID-19 when a number of players tested positive, including Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, who missed the opening match at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Senegal won their first match against Zimbabwe 1-0 with a goal by Liverpool winger Sadio Mane at the stoppage time from a penalty kick.

FSF also revealed that Watford winger Ismaila Sarr is currently in Barcelona for a long-planned medical check-up for a previous injury.

Sarr is expected to join his national team in Cameroon after being monitored daily during the rehabilitation program which will take two weeks, according to the FSF.

Senegal, playing in Group B of the AFCON, are scheduled to face Guinea on Friday in the second round of the group stage.
