The 32-year-old Ahly player tested positive for the virus a week ago, missing a 1-0 loss to Gambia in the third round of the group stage before being absent also in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Nigeria in the round of 16.

Tunisia lost 1-0 to Mali in the group stage opening game before thrashing Mauritania 4-0.

Against Nigeria, the Carthage Eagles were suffering from the absence of seven players, including Maaloul, besides head coach Mondher Kebaier — also due to a coronavirus infection.

The Tunisian trio: Forward Ghaylene Chaalali, forward Yohan Touzghar, and goalkeeper Dahmen Aymen also have reportedly tested negative from the virus on Tuesday.

The North Africans will be facing Burkina Faso, who eliminated Gabon after a penalty shootout in the round of 16 of the continental prestigious tournament.
