"In response to Qatari efforts, (Ezzedine) al-Qassam Brigades released two American citizens (a mother and her daughter) for humanitarian reasons," Hamas said in a statement posted on Telegram.

It added that this move comes "to prove to the American people and the world that the claims made by Biden and his fascist administration are false and baseless."

In a statement by the office of Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, it named the women released as Judith Tai Raanan and Natalie Shoshana Raanan, who were abducted from Nahal Oz kibbutz.
