Jordan's Council of Church Leaders announced Monday the cancellation of all the festive Christmas celebrations, events, and activities for this year, in solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip amid the ongoing Israeli aggression.

This includes Christmas bazaars, musical scout parades, gift distributions for children, and Christmas decoration initiatives, with celebrations limited to religious prayers and rituals, according to local media reports.

Furthermore, the council announced that all contributions made by churches for the upcoming Sunday will be allocated to support the people of Gaza, encouraging individuals to donate through the official channels provided by churches.

The council said its decision was made out of respect for those innocent victims killed in Gaza and the West Bank.

Additionally, the council expressed its concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli army continues its heavy bombardment, shattering thousands of lives and destroying homes, schools, hospitals, and places of worship.

Jordan contains a number of sacred churches including the Cathedral of the Hypapante of the Lord in Amman and the Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour in the Old City.

Amman recalled its ambassador to Tel Aviv Wednesday, in protest against the Israeli war on Gaza.
