"Hamas is an integral part of the Palestinian political landscape, and I do not know anyone with a degree of sanity who can seriously think that it is possible to eliminate it, eradicate a political movement with ideology," Fayyad said.
"How Israel characterizes it, how some elements of the international community characterize it, does not represent our view," he said.
Fayyad, who served as PM between 2007 and 2013, affirmed that despite differences between Palestinian factions they all aim to attain Palestinian people’s national rights and to live as free people with dignity on their own.
He also added that Israel’s bombardment of Gaza since 7 October is a war crime, noting the scale of devastation and aggression.
"4,000 children who are killed... cannot possibly have been combatants," Fayyad said, responding to Israeli officials who have cast doubt on the number of Palestinian civilians killed in Gaza.
He also slammed an Israeli minister’s suggestion of using nuclear bombs against Gaza, saying: "That hides the fact that so far, more Palestinians have perished or were injured in the course of what has happened over the course of the past month, that many times over the number of fatalities and those injured in the nuclear bomb on Nagasaki and Hiroshima 1945."
