David Satterfield, US Special Envoy for Middle East Humanitarian Issues.
Satterfield said the US is working hard to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and has put in place mechanisms to ensure a minimum level of basic humanitarian assistance, including fuel, food, water, and medical supplies,” in answer to questions from Ahram Online during a hybrid press briefing held in Dubai.
"We started at zero three weeks ago, and we have now moved the level of assistance to around 100 trucks a day. Fuel is now available in Gaza for desalination plants, hospitals in the north and center, and for the use of UN implementers themselves,” Satterfield said.
"The four to five-hour safe passages announced by Israel and the White House should help facilitate movement and aid delivery, but we will need to ensure enough humanitarian supplies can be transported during this window each day," he added.
Satterfield stressed that Gazans must take the lead to determine their future, noting that a two-state solution that includes Gaza and the West Bank as a Palestinian state is the only viable option.
"Any end to this conflict cannot leave Hamas in power or resume Israeli occupation of Gaza," he declared.
Satterfield reiterated that the protection of civilians, especially children harmed in the conflict, is the top concern.
He highlighted that the US is doing all it can to support Israel's military efforts while also trying to minimize casualties.
More broadly, Satterfield said the US does not foresee an inevitable conflict between Israel and Lebanon.
"All parties understand the need to avoid further escalation," he said. "Our focus remains on urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza and planning for a sustainable solution that addresses both security and economic issues."Satterfield said the US is working hard to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and has put in place mechanisms to ensure a minimum level of basic humanitarian assistance, including fuel, food, water, and medical supplies,” in answer to questions from Ahram Online during a hybrid press briefing held in Dubai.
