Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian
"Due to the increasing intensity of the war against the civilian residents of Gaza, the expansion of the scope of the war has now become inevitable", Amir-Abdollahian said to his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in a phone call.
Both diplomats strongly condemned "the attacks of the Zionist regime against civilians," and discussed ways through which they could "end the brutal attacks of the Israeli regime", according to IRNA official news agency.
The Islamic republic, which supports Hamas financially and militarily, has hailed the militant group's operation as a "success", but denied any involvement.
On Thursday, Iran rejected a G7 statement which called on Tehran to stop supporting Hamas militants and taking actions that "destabilise" the Middle East.
Tehran's comment came a day after foreign ministers from the G7 group of advanced economies meeting in Tokyo expressed support for "humanitarian pauses and corridors" in the Israeli war on Gaza, but stopped short of calling for a ceasefire.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi accused Monday the US of "encouraging" Israel to kill and carry out "cruel acts" against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Raisi will join Arab leaders in the Saudi capital on Saturday for an urgent summit expected to underscore demands that Israel's war on Gaza end before the violence draws in other countries.
Iran does not recognise Israel and has made support for the Palestinian cause a centrepiece of its foreign policy since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
