Demonstrations and rallies rocket the United States, Cuba, Venezuela, the United Kingdom, America, France, Norway, Germany, Sweden, Jordan, Lebanon, and other countries on the Global Day of Action for Palestine, demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

Hundreds of protesters rallied in Washington on Saturday, shouting slogans like "Free free Palestine" outside the Israeli embassy before marching with a giant Palestinian flag to the Israeli ambassador's residence.

Some held signs paying tribute to the US airman who died after self-immolating outside the Israeli embassy last weekend, who shouted "free Palestine" as he lit himself on fire, according to footage shared on social media.

In Cuba, a mass demonstration was organized in the capital Havana in solidarity with Palestine with the participation of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel. 

In the United Kingdom, hundreds of people marched in Manchester, chanting "your profits are stained with Palestinian blood," in protest to the continued British support for Israel since the beginning of the aggression on Gaza on 7 October.

Canadian, Italian PMs’ soiree scrapped
 

Meanwhile, hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered in front of the Art Gallery of Ontario, where Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was due to host his Italian counterpart, Giorgia Meloni, according to Canadian media reports.

"Due to security concerns, the event was canceled," Jenna Ghassabeh, a spokesperson for the Canadian prime minister's office, told AFP without giving further details.

Meloni, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the Group of Seven (G7) nations, is visiting Canada ahead of a leaders' summit in Italy in June.

Earlier in the day, the two leaders held talks where they discussed what Meloni described as a "very difficult Middle East crisis".

According to Canadian public broadcaster CBC, protesters opposed to Canada's response to the Israeli war on Gaza blocked access to the venue.

Between 200 and 300 demonstrators took part in the protest, according to the CBC.

Videos and photos circulating on social media showed a heavy police presence near the gallery.
