"President Mahmud Abbas of the State of Palestine strongly condemned the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, deeming it a cowardly act and a serious escalation," Abbas's office said in a statement. "He urged our people and their forces to unite, remain patient, and stand firm against the Israeli occupation."

The Palestinian government called on the factions, forces, and Palestinian people to further national unity and steadfastness in the face of the Israeli occupation and its crimes.

The national and Islamic forces in Palestine declared a general strike all across Palestine, condemning the assassination of Haniyeh.

The forces mourned the leader Haniyeh in a press statement, and stressed that "this cowardly assassination will not break the will and steadfastness of Palestinian people, but will increase their determination and resolve to move forward by adhering to their rights and national constants until freedom and independence."

Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Hussein al-Sheikh also condemned Haniyeh’s assassination as a “cowardly act.”

“We strongly denounce and condemn the assassination of the head of the Political Bureau, the national leader, Ismail Haniyeh,” al-Sheikh wrote on X. “We consider it a cowardly act, this pushes us to remain more steadfast in the face of the occupation, and the necessity of achieving the unity of the Palestinian forces and factions.”

Hamas senior official Moussa Abu Marzouk, meanwhile, said that Haniyeh’s assassination will not go unanswered, Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported Wednesday. He also called the assassination a cowardly act.
