Some of the rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome and some impacted open areas, causing no injuries, Times of Israel said.
Sirens had sounded in several towns near Ashdod, for the first time in months, according to the Israeli outlet.
One of the five rockets fired from Gaza impacted an open area near the settlement of Bitzaron, sparking a fire.
The Israeli Fire and Rescue Service says firefighters are working to extinguish the blaze.
The Israeli army said that another rocket hit the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council, causing no injuries.
The Palestinian Al-Quds Brigades announced that it had targeted, in cooperation with the Martyr Omar Al-Qassem Forces, the Nahal Oz site and the Be'eri settlements with a barrage of rockets.
Last week, Hamas's armed wing said that the killing of its political leader Ismail Haniyeh takes the war with Israel to "new levels," warning of repercussions for the entire region.
"This assassination ... takes the war to new levels and will have enormous consequences for the entire region," the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, whose fighters are engaged in fierce battles with Israeli troops in Gaza, said in a statement.
Sami Abu Zuhri, a spokesperson for Hamas, said that the killing of Haniyeh, won't impact Hamas, saying that Israel won’t achieve its goals including eradicating the Palestinians.
“The occupation will not succeed in achieving its goals,” he told The Associated Press, adding that Hamas emerged stronger after past crises and the assassination of its leaders.
