The Israeli army said it killed five Palestinian fighters early Thursday in the second day of a large-scale aggression on the occupied West Bank.

According to Palestinian medical sources, the aggression on the northern West Bank has so far resulted in killing 17 citizens, including eight in Jenin, five in Tulkarm, and four in Tubas, and injuring more than 30 others, raising the death toll in the occupied West Bank since the war in Gaza began to 667.

The Israeli military claimed it killed five Palestinian fighters who were hidden inside a mosque in Tulkarem early Thursday, including a well-known local commander.

There was no immediate Palestinian confirmation of the death of Mohammed Jaber, known as Abu Shujaa, a commander in the Islamic Jihad group in the Nur Shams refugee camp on the outskirts of the city of Tulkarem.

The situation in Jenin is difficult, and the occupation forces are still besieging the city and its camp and closing the roads leading to it, Jenin Governor Kamal Abu Al-Rab told WAFA news agency.

He added that the occupation forces continue to destroy citizens' vehicles and property, bulldoze streets and infrastructure, and raid homes in the city.

He also pointed out that the Israeli soldiers forced several citizens to evacuate their homes and told them not to return for four days, turning their homes into military barracks.

In Tubas, the occupation forces withdrew from Al-Far'a camp, after an aggression that lasted more than 30 hours, leaving four killed, detaining several people, and destroying homes and infrastructure.

Israel occupied the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem in the 1967 Mideast war.

The three million Palestinians in the West Bank live under seemingly open-ended Israeli military rule, with the Western-backed Palestinian Authority administering towns and cities.

Over 500,000 Jewish settlers, who have Israeli citizenship, live in well over 100 settlements across the territory that most of the international community considers illegal.

On Wednesday, Israel's Minister of Foreign Affairs Israel Katz called for a Gaza-like war in the occupied West Bank, including ordering West Bank civilians to evacuate temporarily.

“We need to deal with the [terror] threat exactly as we deal with terror infrastructure in Gaza, including the temporary evacuation of Palestinian civilians and any other step needed,” he said on X.

“This is a war in every sense,” he emphasized.

Katz claimed Israeli forces operating in Jenin, Tulkarem, and other areas are working to dismantle an Iranian-backed terror network being built up in the West Bank.
