The World Food Programme (WFP) has reported that 2.2 million people in Gaza are in desperate need of humanitarian aid after 11 months of war, highlighting that Israeli evacuation orders are severely obstructing their access to much-needed assistance.

In a statement posted on X, WFP said that despite the organization’s commitment to providing aid, evacuation orders are hindering relief efforts where needs are rapidly increasing and a ceasefire is needed.

Speaking at the opening session of the 57th Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday, UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk highlighted the dire situation in Gaza, stressing the urgent need to end the conflict.

"Palestinians struggle to survive each day, as nearly 1.9 million people have been forcibly displaced across the strip, many multiple times," Türk said.

He stressed that ending the war in Gaza is an "absolute, urgent priority" to prevent further human suffering and displacement.
